A couple months ago my favorite Uncle Russ got diagnosed with stage 3 esophageal cancer. He is on his third round of chemo and is doing well. He has surgery next month to get rid of the tumor. We look forward to this being over and celebrating when he goes into remission. In the meantime Geena (his youngest daughter-my awesome cousin) was a leader of the Russ Walkers at a local relay for cancer in San Jose. So off we went to join in on the walking craze. Put aside the long drives and freezing weather we had a great time. It was great to be with family and support my uncle.
There was lots of cousin action. The girls get so spoiled when we are with the cousins. That's Russ himself holding Irelyn in picture number two. He was there and even walked! He truly is super human!!

It was a 24 hour relay, so the team set up camp. Heres Brookelyn coloring in the warmth of the tent. It was freezing!

Geena, Syrup and the babies walked a couple miles together. Ashelyn even got a star bead which meant she walked a mile all by herself! Yay, Ashelyn!
The big girls got their face painted. All proceeds went to finding a cure for cancer.
Irleyn was such a good baby. So sweet!
After going back to the house to warm up and eat we headed out again. This time at night for the luminary walk. Everyone carried a candle and and walked a track that was lit up with dedicated bags with candles in them.
Heres Aunt Judy getting ready for the freezing night. Yes ,I know she looks like a snow man, but a girls got to do what a girls got to do. Did I mention it was FREEZING!!! Thanks to Aunt Cindy the girls stayed home in the warm house.

Here's bags for our family that had and has cancer. It was very touching to be together as family to remember these people and support Russ. We just know he's going to beat this! Good job Geena for putting this together! We all appreciated your efforts, especially your daddy.

Sounds like a wounderful event to be apart of. Glad you guys got to go and great job on running 6 miles!!
What a wonderful blog. It really meant so much that most of our family came to join us for this event. Yes, Russ is going to beat his cancer! We are all so grateful for such wonderful family support (and cute, fun kids!)
